Job Market Insights 2025 – Is it getting Better?

It has been a volatile employment market throughout 2024 with many kiwis heading overseas, many to our neighbour Australia for better pay and quality of life and we have definitely been in a recession where employees have lost jobs and unemployment reached 5.1% in December.

There is good news and research has shown that 66% of Employers are planning to recruit and there are fluctuations in Industries taking on new employees.

Construction jobs saw a 6.6% decrease whilst education and training rose by 4%.

Healthcare jobs rose by 2.3%.

New Zealand does currently appear to have a shortage of health professionals

Nurses, and tradesmen, construction workers and Education and Social Sciences professionals as well as farming, fishing, forestry and IT and telecomms.

The economy here in New Zealand is expected to grow by 2.5% by 2028 and in line with this the most popular job growth areas are healthcare, education, engineering, construction and agriculture… so if you are interested get your applications in now.
